This is my first book, an intimate printed portrait of my studio practise called Works on Nature with independent book designers and publishers Jane and Jeremy.
It starts with a beautiful essay by art writer Emily Steer before visually immersing you in my creative process. I have collected images of experiments, my studio and the coastal environment that inspires much of my work, with beautiful inserts that inform the reader of my core inspirations.
Jane and Jeremy are independent publishers and designers and their inspiring bookshop, the Bookend, sits between my home and studio, in Kemp Town, Brighton.
Works on Nature is printed by Die Keure in Bruges, Belgium, a company that has mastered the art of printing and has made books for well known museums, galleries and publishers around the world, including the Tate and the Rijksmuseum.
It is made of 108 pages printed on 170 gsm Circle offset white paper with a thread sewn Swiss binding and foil-stamped hard cover of my vessel drawing. At intervals the sections are wrapped in 60 gsm translucent IBO printed interludes, with text observations and the list of illustrations.
The book is 20 x 26 cms and the Swiss binding means that it opens flat so that the images are to be enjoyed in full without impacting on the structural integrity of the binding.
Only 500 copies of this first edition have been printed. I hope you enjoy it.
