Stuart Redler British

Stuart Redler grew up on a farm in Somerset and this has given the London based photographer a singularly robust, honest and often humorous view of life. He initially studied economics but switched to a Photography Degree at the London College of Printing. Stuart Redler has been a photographer since 1983, initially shooting for magazines and design companies. During the 1990s he shot for advertising agencies whose clients included Volkswagen, IBM, Sony, Ford, Microsoft and Volvo. However for more than two decades the photographer has concentrated solely on monochrome art prints. The artist's striking photographic images are imbued with an obsession for form and for light often using hard directional sunlight or a flash in order to gain stark, high-contrast images. Redler's quietly observant photographs, developed in a warm black and white, are often playful and quirky. They are always empathetic and sensitive to cultures and the condition of man. The photographer's subjects are diverse and include the dynamic, the delicate, the urban and the pastoral. This plethora of subject matter offers a broad base which reveals the artist's curiosity for life that has resulted in a career of global travel.

Stuart Redler is naturally reserved but his images and accomplishments speak for themselves. He is held in high regard internationally and his pictures are held in numerous private and public collections including the permanent collection of The National Portrait Gallery in London. He has also exhibited at the Victoria & Albert museum in London. Stuart Redler's photographs have appeared in many publications, including Condé Nast Traveller (UK, USA and China), House and Garden, The Times and The Daily Telegraph. He has received six awards from The Association of Photographers, including a gold medal in 2000 for his portfolio of architectural images, and also awards from Graphis, PDN and Communication Art.
